So where does one begin? Perhaps an introduction would be appropriate. Hello. My name is Angela. For many years now I've had a semi-hidden interest in writing. Born and raised the daughter of a Hungarian Freedom Fighter, my father, who had escaped communistic regime during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, had deeply instilled in me the importance of freedom of speech. Little do the majority in this wonderful country of ours, the USA, have full comprehension of exactly it means to be able to voice personal beliefs. Due to one of my father's childhood experiences, I was taught quite differently and reminded that one must never take it for granted.
Late one night, while my father was a child, communist soldiers came into his home and abruptly took my grandfather away. Not a word prior of his offense. No warning, citation or ticket. What could he have done to deserve such a fate? What hideous crime had he committed to warrant an invasion of the privacy of his home while his family watched with absolutely no control? He'd voiced his opinion publicly regarding the communistic regime in a demeaning manner. Insulted their intelligence, or lack therefor, to be more exact. That was his crime.
Many of us never give second thought while stepping into a store, picking up a newspaper and blurting out "our congressman's a jerk". The simple right has not always been a luxury for many, and certainly wasn't for my grandfather. He was not read any rights, allowed a phone call, attorney, bail or anything even remotely close. Instead, he was taken without his family even knowing little as where or if he would live to regret his actions.
Years later he was finally returned. Not a word spoken of his whereabouts while gone. It was clearly understood that should not be done for fear of losing loved ones again.
How does this fit in with me and the creation of this blog and it's contents? On top of always having the desire to write and lean toward the arts, remembering and recognizing roots once again, has not only acted as an inspiration, but as a catapult, if you will, to get the job done.
My interests are pretty vast. Not black and white or staunch with much. With that in mind, this blog will cover many things. Subjects will just depend on what inspires me at the time and what just so happens to feel like..... "The Write Thing."

My name is Paul and I know Angela from a previous site where we were both members. We communicated together off the site and became good friends.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I've ever written anything in a blog but knowing Angela and reading her introduction made me want to participate. The title, "The Write Thing" is in itself inspirational!
As everyone, I have my opinions that have been nutured and reflected upon for most of my 59 yeats of existence.
These opinions are based soley on personal experience and not on any book, the press or propoganda of any sort whatsoever. If I do lock horns with anyone on this blog, one thing that I will not suffer are opinions that come from any of the above and not from one's personal experience.
As Angela points out, opinions should be selected, weighed, thought out and expressed in the most objective manner.
Paul,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I want to thank you so much for the encouragement... It really made my morning & no doubt will help push a little further.
Secondly, I've got some credit here where credit is due. In regards to the title "The Write Thing," it was honestly my cousin's idea. I was going to title it "The Right Thing." When I was setting things up she suggested this current one... & it felt absolutely perfect!
I'm looking extremely forward not only for myself, yet for others to see some of your opinions. HA! You're worldly knowledge amazes me & no doubt will others.
Wow...
Thank you once again...
Hope to see you soon.
This is super, Angie. You can now think of your grandfather every time you click the "publish your post" button. His loss of freedom over 'publishing' his thoughts should scare us all.
ReplyDeleteGreat first post, Angie. And Paul, We think a little alike: alphabet soup doesn't impress us much, does it? I, too, prefer to hear impressions based on personal experience.
Have fun, and I'll be keeping an eye out for both of you.
